A delightful, recently renovated 3 bedroom cottage in the heart of Whitstable, a small seaside town just over an hour from London.
The cottage is in a prime location – 30 seconds from Whitstable’s quirky Harbour Street, which has lots of amazing independent shops, galleries, restaurants & bars and about 2 mins to the beach and harbour.
This unique cottage is packed with lots of interesting one off antiques, has a shabby chic decor and is full of rustic charm.
The cottage has a lovely walled garden with beautiful rose bushes and home grown herbs as well as a french table and chairs for at least 8 people dining outside ; there’s a sitting room with two chesterfield sofas which seats at least six people comfortably; the dining room has a real open log fire and a dining table & chairs that seats 6 people; the downstairs bathroom with the original cast iron roll top bath and there is also a more modern shower room upstairs ; each of the three double bedrooms have antique double beds and egyptian cotton sheets; plus there’s an amazing bespoke gallery kitchen with hand -made wooden worktops a range cooker, smeg fridge freezer, and a full complement of pots, pans and utensils. There are also wooden floors and old school radiators throughout the cottage.
Plus, there is Sky TV in living room and attic room, wifi throughout, as well as an ipod connected music system. We also have a fantastic 1970’s music box with over 500 vinyl 45’s in the dining room which guests are more than welcome to play.
The cottage is perfect place for family and friends to escape from the busy demands of modern life and is also great for entertaining.
The Cook’s Cottage is ideal for people who love cooking as it has a bespoke kitchen with a range cooker and is well stocked with herbs & spices and also has lots of cooking books and cooking utensils. With amazing fresh ingredients just around the corner in the many independent shops of Whitstable, it’s the perfect place for budding chefs to test out recipes!
However, if cooking isn’t your thing, the cottage is a charming escape from the stresses of the modern world.
Our guests have access to everything – the whole house & garden although the shed at the back of the garden is currently off limits to guests.
We provide a small hamper that contains lots of information about things to do in Whitstable and the surrounding area as well as a bottle of wine as a welcome gift! As the name suggests, our cottage is great for those that like to cook. The kitchen has been created with this in mind with bespoke worktops and shelves that have been created by our carpenter Max, out of reclaimed wood. We’ve also scoured various vintage stores and markets to find lots of lovely vintage but fully working utensils. We have a larder as such with a vast array of herbs, spices and oils and we grow lots of fresh herbs in the garden.
As with all these original fisherman’s cottages the bathroom is on the ground floor. However, we also have a shower room on the 1st floor, next to two of the three double bedrooms. The ground floor bathroom has a vaulted beamed ceiling with the original roll top bath and taps, all of which we have restored.
The cottage has a lovely walled garden with lots of mature roses and a lovely passion fruit vine and we have a French dining table and chairs that can seat about eight people comfortably. We also have lots of cushions and blankets should the nights turn a bit chilly and a lovely stone chimera that blasts out the heat. There is a BBQ too. We also grow a selection of fresh herbs.
The huge master bedroom on the 2nd floor. This lovely French boho room has a gorgeous antique double bed with white wooden floors and the room takes up most of the second floor of the cottage. The room has its own set of stairs that lead directly into the bedroom and as a consequence there is no door to this bedroom however the room is completely private and secluded.
Having an upstairs bathroom is very rare in these fisherman cottages so this small but compact shower room is a bit of a luxury. We’ve tried to retain the vintage feel with bespoke antique wooden shelving as well as antique mirrors. The shower, however, is very modern with a large, powerful shower head that will wake anyone up in the morning!
As the name suggests, our cottage is great for those that like to cook and as we love cooking too we’ve lots of cookery books and Whitstable is the perfect place to get amazing fresh produce. We would strongly recommend that our guests support the local economy and shop locally and we can recommend the best butchers, fishmongers and green groceries that are on the high street, a mere hop and skip away from our cottage. Please, please try and shop local and don’t shop at Tesco’s otherwise our lovely independent shops won’t be able to stick around and Whitstable will lose its irresistible charm.
We have a wide range of entertainment to keep guests amused! There are 300 vinyl records and an amazing retro late 1960/70’s music box with valve speakers to play them on as well as more modern apple speakers for digital music. We also have radiogram that has fantastic sound, about 200 DVD’s and a mixture of games ranging from scrabble to trivial pursuit. We have a retro picnic basket as well various mats and cushions for the beach. There is Wi-Fi throughout the cottage and Sky TV with a DVD player in the sitting room as well as in the master bedroom on the 2nd floor. And for those that like cooking, the kitchen has specifically been created for cooking.
Whitstable is fantastic: it’s full of independent shops; lots of amazing bars and restaurants; it also has a thriving artist community so there are some lovely galleries and as a consequence the town has a lovely arty vibe to it! Obviously the seaside is a big attraction and just strolling along the beachfront is a lovely way to spend the day.
The train station is about a 10 minute walk from the cottage. Once you’re in Whitstable most things are a about a 5 min walk away from the cottage which is in an amazing location – less than 5 mins away from the beach, shops and bars.
There is parking outside the cottage but in the busy summer months guests may have to park in a nearby street. However, because the street is a no through road guests will be able to unload their car just out side the cottage and then park it nearby. As the cottage is so centrally located and everything is so close by, guest shouldn’t need their cars until they leave.

We had a lovely family stay at the cottage. There was 6 of us and more than enough room. The kitchen had good facilities and the house was clean. The style and decor I just loved, it is quirky and really shabby chic I just love it!!! All the rooms are gorgeous and have towels. The location is amazing the beach is just behind the street. It is so quiet and peaceful.Kate on Airbnb
We have just spent the weekend at The Cook’s Cottage and have had a lovely stay. The cottage is beautifully and thoughtfully furnished and the kitchen is well equipped. The bath was particularly deep and delightful! And it was nice to have the real fire in the dining room too. The location of the cottage couldn’t be better – right off harbour street, but it wasn’t noisy, so just perfect for getting to the various shops and restaurants and just minutes from the sea too.Kath on Airbnb
